Enter here – and start reaping the benefits

The 2023 lighting category will re-open in summer 2023. Please check back here for the official timeline, which will be published in Spring 2023. Getting recognition for your products, projects and initiatives from the Build Back Better Awards gives a range of immediate and long term benefits:

  • It gives vital independent and authoritative recognition of your achievements and products as examples of excellence.
  • It demonstrates to your prospects that your company is in the vanguard of developing technology for a new paradigm of working and leisure.
  • It provides a compelling marketing narrative in challenging times, when it’s harder than ever to cut through on both social media and other channels.
  • It adds credibility and authority to company collateral including websites, social media channels, literature, brochures, blogposts, advertisements, stationary, vehicles etc.
  • It gives important and permanent editorial exposure – written by experienced business and technology journalists – on independent channels including the Build Back Better Awards website and its social media channels. This editorial exposure additionally provides SEO-vital links back to corporate and practice websites.

We're on the hunt for innovation in lighting. Whether it's a luminaire, light source, driver, control system or key component, we want to hear about it.

Emphasise its unique properties and points of difference, and supply great images to help the judges understand its capabilities.

Entering puts your innovation in front of your sector jury, a panel of 25 top practitioners and thought leaders in your market, a difficult-to-reach audience of major influencers and specifiers.

Remember, unlike many awards where there is just one winner per category, the Build Back Better Awards programme recognises with an award all entries that meet the required standard according to the criteria as decided by the judges.

Applying is straightforward. It’s as easy as filling in the online application form, uploading the supporting material and supplying a product sample if requested.

After application, the documentation is put before the relevant sector specific expert panel.

As well as the product sample, the panel can also request an in-person or online presentation to answer any questions that the judges may have.

If the panel is satisfied it has the information it needs to proceed to an evaluation for rating, it will then assess the applications against the specified criteria.

It will then award it a Build Back Better Gold or Build Back Better Platinum rating.

Entries with a strong sustainability and environmental narrative may also be offered the option of a Build Back Better Green rating. This is in the gift of the judging team.

The entry fee is £250 + VAT for UK entries and £250 for non-UK entrants.

Successful applicants in the product category who receive a Build Back Better Award Gold or Platinum will be required to purchase a Winner’s Pack which gives you a range of unique benefits to begin using the award to drive business and sales growth and recognition. See the full benefits and current cost HERE.

This category will open to entries in summer 2023.

We welcome lighting projects from all sectors, including outdoor, public realm, workplace, retail, residential, healthcare, leisure, faith, hospitality and industrial. We particularly welcome projects where lighting has a social value and a commitment to the circular economy or a dimension beyond the illumination of a space.

Lighting that’s designed primarily for collaboration, wellbeing or inclusion, where the lighting is for people. We want to recognise and celebrate these schemes as exemplars of a shared future.

There can be several Build Back Better Awards Platinum and Gold awards in the same category if the expert judges believe they merit the award.

Build Back Better Gold will be awarded to projects which exhibit innovation and unique points of difference, while Build Back Better Platinum is reserved for exceptional exemplars with a unique vision.

Projects should have been completed, substantially improved or refurbished between 1 January 2016 and 29 July 2023.
The entry fee is £250 + VAT for UK entries and £250 for non-UK entrants.

There are no further fees to pay for projects, and no requirement to purchase a winner's pack. Winning projects will receive a PDF winner's certificate suitable for printing, framing and displaying.

This category will reopen in summer 2023.

Uniquely, the Build Back Better Awards welcomes industry initiatives and concepts. These could include enterprises, standards, methodologies, ideas and processes that advance the aims and objectives of the Awards programme. This section is also for concepts from product designers independent of manufacturers.

In previous sessions winners have included a technical memorandum, a remanufacturing operation, a mobile service division and a buy-back scheme.

The entry fee is £250 + VAT for UK entries and £250 for non-UK entrants.

There are no further fees to pay for initiatives and no requirement to purchase a winner's pack. Winning projects will receive a PDF winner's certificate suitable for printing, framing and displaying.  This category reopens in summer 2023.
