A breakthrough artificial skylight from Anglo-American firm Innerscene has finally solved some of the challenges of this exciting class of product. 

First of all, the A7 Virtual Sun is just 24cm deep, one of the slimmest on the market, allowing it to be retrofitted.

Second, the sun appears at true infinity so every occupant only sees one sun, no matter how many fixtures are joined together

Third, the colour temperature can automatically tune between 2700K and 20000K

Equipped with Innerscene’s Infinity Focus Technology, the Virtual Sun A7 displays a bright, realistic sky and brilliant sun that appears to be 93 million miles away. 

It’s also equipped with a geographically calibrated internal clock which enables it to synchronise its light with local daylight settings. 

Throughout the day, the Virtual Sun A7 can match the real sky from sunrise to sunset.

Innerscene says it has taken the price-point down down by an order of magnitude compared to earlier models.

One of its first installations is in the Apple headquarters in Cupertino.
