Obscura65
Lucent Lighting

An adjustable downlight designed with circularity and sustainability at its core has won a Build Back Better GREEN Award in the 2026 lighting category.

Lucent Lighting’s Obscura65 is manufactured using 89 per cent recycled material, with 99 per cent of the product recyclable.

Crucially, the sustainability approach goes beyond material selection. Obscura65 has been developed as a modular, maintainable product. Components and LED modules can be accessed and replaced, supporting repair and future upgrades rather than disposal of the complete luminaire. This helps extend its useful life, reduce waste and keep materials in use for longer – key principles of the circular economy.

Modularity also brings practical benefits throughout Obscura65’s life. Its construction allows for quick assembly, straightforward maintenance and repairability, while interchangeable light sources provide flexibility should requirements change.

A range of installation kits enables Obscura65 to accommodate different ceiling types, allowing the same luminaire platform to be used across varied architectural conditions and reducing the need for multiple product solutions. This simplifies specification and installation, giving designers and contractors greater freedom to respond to different ceiling constructions without compromising the consistency of the lighting scheme.

Designed for very low-glare applications, Obscura65 achieves a UGR of <19 while giving designers considerable freedom in specification. Compatibility with Lucent’s LED35 and LED51 modules allows performance to be selected around the application, from the high output of LED51-Q HO and high efficiency of LED51-Q HE to the extremely low glare of LED35-Q.

Warm dim, tuneable white and SuperSpot options further extend its application, alongside Lucent’s new Comfort modules for enhanced glare control.

Obscura65 demonstrates how performance, visual comfort and circular design can be considered together.

Rather than creating a fixed luminaire that risks becoming obsolete as requirements or technology change, Lucent Lighting have developed an adaptable lighting solution designed to be maintained, repaired and upgraded.

Combining low-glare performance, interchangeable light sources, installation flexibility and responsible material choices, Obscura65 considers its environmental impact across a longer working life – reducing unnecessary replacement while retaining the flexibility to meet evolving lighting requirements.
